Southern Pacific Sacramento Locomotive Works: Shop Tours

We have arranged a tour of the Southern Pacific Sacramento Locomotive Works Shops. This is where the California State Railroad Museum maintains all their equipment including the steam engines, it is a working shop. This tour is not open to the public and has only been open to CSRM Foundation members at the Trainmaster level and higher. The tour is limited to 200 spots divided into four groups, two on Tuesday and two on Wednesday (9-3-19 and 9-4-19). Transportation from the Hotel to the tour will be provided. This tour involves a 1/4 mile walk each way plus stairs and uneven floors. You must sign a Release of Liability form. The cost of the tour is $35 each.

Professional Photography Class at the California State Railroad Museum

Canon Live Learning will be presenting a photographers-only "Bring your own Tripod" workshop at CSRM Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Limited to only 50 participants, all photographers are required to sign a release of liability and a "not for commercial use" clause. The cost is $75 for both sessions and registration is through Canon; click here to register for the class. Proceeds will help support events and programs of the CSRM.

Double Headed Steam Train at Railtown 1897

California State Park Railtown 1897 will be running double headed all day on September 8, 2019, four trains are scheduled for that day, 10:30am, Noon, 1:30pm, and 3:00pm. The Sierra #3 and Sierra #28 will handle the duties. This is their normal operating day, open to the public. The last train of the day will feature a 25 seat Private car. One of their 80 seat coaches will be removed and the Private car will be added. Those who have attended the 39th NNGC have priority on the last train, unsold seats will be returned to Railtown for public rider ship. Railtown 1897’s hours are 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. A BBQ lunch will be provided by Kiwanis of Sonora from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, cost is $12.00, payable to the Kiwanis of Sonora.

We are providing bus transportation from and to the Hotel for the Railtown trip. The cost to ride the coach and the bus trip is $75 each, while the Private car and the bus trip is $125 each. For those who wish to drive your own vehicle to Jamestown, it is at least a 2 ¼ hour trip through the Gold Country (can take longer if you sightsee), but then the cost of the coach ride is $45 each and the Private car is $95 each. Admission to the park and all the tours are included in that price.
